Robin Ticciati will take over Glyndebourne
The conductor will succeed Vladimir Jurowski in 2014.
The Sunday Times has published its annual Top 100 list featuring its picks of the best recordings of the year. The 2014 list awards the number 9 spot to Robin Ticciati and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for its impressive performance of Schumann Symphonies.
In summing up the Sunday Times wrote, 'In a competitive year, Ticciati's lithe, youthful accounts of the great works produced the trump card', placing Ticciati's recording above those of Simon Rattle & The Berlin Philharmonic and Yannick Nézet-Séguin & The Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
This fantastic recording has accumulated a wealth of great reviews:
Classical CD of the Week: 'Ticciati adopts near-ideal tempi, refusing to drag in the slow movements...and he is propulsive in Schumann's energetic, animated allegros.' The Sunday Times
'The Adagio of Symphony No. 2 is beautifully done, with a coda that really tugs at the heartstrings...the interpretations...will reward repeated hearing.' BBC Music Magazine
‘...the finest set on disc [in] a decade...and perhaps the most impressive thing that Ticciati has done on disc so far... hearing these symphonies in such superbly played, convincingly Schumannesque performances is irresistible.' The Guardian
