The Prince Consort is fast emerging as a fresh, exciting and versatile ensemble. Their performances are characterised by wide-ranging programmes and polished presentation, which showcase different combinations of voice and piano, from solos to small groups in piano-accompanied song.
The Prince Consort love singing songs, telling stories, and collaborating with other artists - sometimes from very different worlds - to create something new.
The Prince Consort has been together for over 12 years as a group, and on the way they’ve been fortunate enough to work with some truly incredible artists, including Ned Rorem, Stephen Hough, Philip Fowke, Jason Rebello, Cheryl Frances Hoad, Laura Mucha, Luke Wright, Gwilym Simcock, Mishka Adams, Pete Churchill and Richard Ecclestone. There are not many platforms online for this incredible music, so they’ve also been working hard with their favourite filmmaker, Ardalan Aram to produce great video content on a regular basis and to keep fans constantly challenged and engaged by these songs.
The Prince Consort love rethinking the way music is presented, so a lot of their collaborations are with other artists. Currently they’ve been working with jazz megastar Jason Rebello, reworking well-known songs and also writing new music. It is amazing how doing this also alters our perceptions and performances of the classics.
Since their debut with Graham Johnson at Wigmore Hall over ten years ago, they’ve given many Wigmore series concerts covering a wide range of pieces. This includes a three concert American song series, as well as performances with Malcolm Martineau, Stephen Hough and Philip Fowke. The Prince Consort really thrive on working with contemporary composers and have commissioned major works from Cheryl Frances Hoad, Stephen Hough, Ned Rorem, Gwilym Simcock, Graham Ross and Christopher Weston. There is a real excitement in bringing new compositions to life.
The Prince Consort is also proud to be helping a new generation of song recitalists on their way. Their Side by Side project in collaboration with Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Wigmore Hall consists of a range of workshops and rehearsals with Guildhall students, culminating in a recital at Wigmore Hall in which students and members of The Prince Consort perform side by side.
