Described by the Süddeutsche Zeitung as ‘a huge talent ... there is an element of pure genius in this young man’, Jonian has boundless energy and imagination. The prize-winning violinist has performed widely in Europe and will release his first recording with Linn in 2022.
Biography
Over the last year Jonian has made his debut at the Konzerthaus Berlin as soloist and artistic director of the Caerus Chamber Ensemble, given recitals at Wigmore Hall, London, and taken part in the Resonances (Belgium), Lockenhaus (Switzerland) and Schubertiade (Austria) Festivals. He has collaborated with Nicolas Altstaedt, Steven Isserlis, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Antje Weithaas and Vilde Frang, among many others.
Highlights prior to this included appearances as soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe conducted by Sir András Schiff at the Kronberg Festival, Athens State Orchestra at Megaron Hall and Scottish Chamber Orchestra at Tivoli Hall.
This season Jonian has performed the Beethoven Concerto with the London Mozart Players and North Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra.
He joined the recently reunited Kelemen Quartet to perform the complete Bartók String Quartets and to undertake a series of streamed chamber music concerts at the Liszt Academy. Over the summer he returns to the Boswiler Sommer, Mantova Chamber Music and Lockenhaus Festivals and makes his solo debut recording for Linn Records.
Jonian has performed widely in Europe including the Handelsbeurs Concertzaal, the Louvre in Paris, Berlin Philharmonie, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Progetto Martha Argerich, Heidelberger-Frühling, Musikdorf-Ernen, Hitzacker and Mantua Chamber Music Festivals. He has taken part in Open Chamber Music at IMS Prussia Cove, Chamber Music Connects the World at Kronberg Academy and the Verbier Academy Festival.
Born in Athens, of Albanian and Greek heritage, in 2020 Jonian completed his Masters at the Kronberg Academy with Antje Weithaas. In 2018 he was a prize-winner at the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) International Auditions in London.
