Trumpets - Jonathan Freeman-Attwood - Gramophone Awards Magazine
Stunningly recorded in Hereford Cathedral, here's a fun programme indeed. Colm Carey's arrangement for two trumpets and organ of Elgar's Severn Suite leaps vividly to life, especially when played as expertly as here. And the Strauss arrangements are a lot of fun too. But the real find here has to be the Rheinberger Suite in C minor in which the solo violin and cello are replaced by trumpets. It's 37 minutes of utter delight with a real symphonic sweep about it.
