Ever since his haunting  Song for Athene was broadcast as part of Princess Diana's funeral service, John Tavener's choral, orchestral and chamber music has enjoyed phenomenal success. Rightly so, too, because much of it is strangely beautiful, in a contemplative, other-worldly way. Most of it draws on the intense spirituality of the Greek Orthodox Church, to which Tavener converted years ago.
