Robin Ticciati & DSO Berlin - Rachmaninov: Symphony No. 2 - Record Geijutsu
Robin Ticciati and DSO Berlin played this symphony in Tokyo in autumn 2019. It was an impressive event, and this CD meets my expectation. Rachmaninov indicated crescendo and decrescendo repeatedly, which Ticciati executes with preciseness and care. He creates a relatively slim sound and exploits portamento in the strings and handstopping in the horns to effectively express the rise and fall of this piece. The second movement is brilliant and the third movement has delicacy. The last movement is large in scale and full of propulsive force – really awesome!
