Robin Ticciati & DSO Berlin - Rachmaninov: Symphony No. 2 - BBC Radio 3 'Record Review'
The Second Symphony with Robin Ticciati conducting the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Intriguingly Ticciati takes some of the weight and mass out of the sound and delivers gossamer textures and transparency. It’s almost as though this rich romantic score has been to the gym and lost a little weight without sacrificing the power. The suppleness of the rhythms in this performances make me want to hear them in Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances as well. Delicious strings slides in places as well and the recording adds air and details. I’ve really enjoyed it.
