Martin Taylor - Celebrating Grappelli - Classical Guitar
Eternally indivisible from the ghost of the great Django Reinhardt, the great Grappelli joins the great Taylor on six tracks here in what is justifiably described as 'special collector's album. No clone, very much his own man, Martin Taylor nevertheless must have come close to Reinhardt in the violinist's affection and professional esteem -in fact, this is openly obvious from Grapelli's introductory note on the pleasure it always gave him to see Martin and to work with him. Featuring - appropriately - Taylor's Spirit Of Django band and superb jazz vocalist Claire Martin, this disc is indeed a joyous celebration, its 12 tracks ranging from such familiar items as I can't give you anything but love, Chicago and the famous Reinhardt/Grappelli Manoir de mes Reves, to Taylor's own hugely evocative Musette for a Magpie, featuring the oh-so-French accordion of Jack Emblow.
Anyone who has enjoyed Grapelli is going to enjoy this collaboration with a superb jazz guitarist, a legend working with a legend-in-the-making.
