Francesco Piemontesi, SCO & Andrew Manze - Mozart: Piano Concertos 19 & 27 - RTE Lyric FM 'Sound Out'

We'll begin with Mozart, and a fine new recording on Linn Records of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Andrew Manze with pianist Francesco Piemontesi of his Concertos Nos 19 & 27. The piano concerto No. 27 was Mozart's last; it was composed months before his death and it is possible that he performed the piano part himself at the premiere. Critics have described it as a transfigured farewell and the youthful energy of previous works is replaced by a more mature and melancholy style. Our soloist Francesco Piemontesi performed this to rave reviews at the 2018 BBC Proms and makes a great team with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra who are renowned for their Mozart performances.
