Dunedin Consort - J.S. Bach: Magnificat - BBC Radio 3 ‘CD Review’
A Bach recording that's going to make the air vibrate with joy in more than a few homes next Friday I suspect. It's already been a ‘CD Review' Disc of the Week - John Butt and the Dunedin Consort's imaginative reconstruction of Bach's first Christmas Day vespers service in the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig in 1723. I played you the Christmas Cantata from it complete, but it's built around the E flat major version of Bach's Magnificat with extra hymns. So, let's end with the glorious sound of the Magnificat as it might have been heard on the 25th December almost 3 centuries ago.
A splendid recording.
