Damien Guillon & Le Banquet Céleste - Purcell: Royal Odes - All Music

Much of Henry Purcell's relatively short life was dedicated to the celebration of the royal family. The Welcome Odes heard on this release from Damien Guillon leading his early music ensemble Le Banquet Céleste date from 1683 through 1685. Though the period in which these mature works were written was relatively short, there is a good deal of variety between the three.

Guillon brought together a quality group of vocalists, and he balances the work of Le Banquet Céleste and the singers -- whether solo, small groups, or tutti -- well throughout.
