Samson Named Gramophone Editor's Choice
Martin Cullingford chooses Dunedin Consort's Handel in the December 2019 issue
Linn are thrilled to announce that recordings by Dunedin Consort and Benjamin Zander have been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award. The nominations for the 57th Annual GRAMMY® Awards are in the categories of 'Best Choral Performance' and 'Best Surround Sound Album' respectively.
It will be of no surprise for many to learn that Mozart: Requiem is nominated in the 'Best Choral Performance' category, as the recording previously triumphed in the 'Choral' category at the 2014 Gramophone Awards. John Butt and Dunedin Consort are in spectacular form as they give the listener the opportunity to re-imagine what this work may have sounded like at its very first performance. Congratulations to Dunedin Consort on its very first GRAMMY® nomination!
Benjamin Zander is a previous GRAMMY® nominee for his recording of Mahler's Ninth Symphony, but the nomination for Mahler: Symphony No. 2 'Resurrection' is his first with Linn. Nominated in the 'Best Surround Sound Album' category, this recording was widely praised for its detail; American Record Guide stated: 'Linn's recording is absolutely twenty-first-century. This one goes on the shelf right alongside the supreme readings of Bernstein, Kaplan, and Solti, to mention only a few of my favorites. Add the recorded sound quality and it advances even beyond them.'
The winners will be announced on February 8th, 2015 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
