In The Studio: Karen Cargill
The popular mezzo-soprano returns to the recording studio to record a programme of French mélodies.
March 2019 marks the 150th anniversary of the death of French composer Hector Berlioz. Gramophone has compiled a list of 10 outstanding recordings, which is, perhaps unsurprisingly, dominated by two great Berlioz conductors, Sir Colin Davis and John Nelson, but which also includes our recording of Les nuits d'été with Robin Ticciati, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Karen Cargill. It is described as "a disc that offers three contrasting facets of Berlioz’s output in performances of exhilarating stature."
Robin Ticciati has also recorded the composer's ground-breaking Symphonie Fantastique, his mighty oratorio L'enfance du Christ and Roméo et Juliette, which was widely considered a pinnacle of French Romanticism and a brilliant example of Berlioz's orchestral mastery.
