Ensemble Marsyas Is A Recording Of The Year
MusicWeb International reviewer chooses 'Edinburgh 1742'
Today at Leith Parish Church, under the leadership of newly appointed Artistic Director Peter Whelan, the Irish Baroque Orchestra records the first part of a brand new recording featuring works by Matthew Dubourg.
Dubourg, a pupil of Francesco Geminiani, was a hugely popular figure in Georgian Dublin; he is credited with having introduced Vivaldi’s music to Ireland and many of his own compositions have only recently come to light. They display an eclectic mix of styles, including stately court odes and dances written for royal celebrations and at Dublin Castle, arrangements of Irish traditional melodies and manically virtuosic violin solos in the fashionable Italian style.
The recording will be released in spring 2019.
