Laurence Dreyfus BBC Music Magazine Interview
The founder of Phantasm discusses the varied and surprising world of Byrd.
We are very pleased to announce that 'Consorts to the Organ' by Phantasm has been nominated for a 2013 BBC Music Magazine Award!
You can cast your vote for your favourite recordings at the BBC Music Magazine website.
The album, which honours the celebrated English Renaissance composer William Lawes and includes a selection of the Five- and Six-Part sets, is nominated in the Chamber Category. In explaining its choice the jury stated: ‘There's something irresistible about Lawes's music...Phantasm and Daniel Hyde are elegant, erudite guides to this strange and beautiful world, relishing each telling dissonance, each mercurial harmonic shift.'
Upon its release ‘Consorts to the Organ' received many five star reviews, entered the UK Specialist Classical Chart and was named ‘Chamber Music Choice' by BBC Music Magazine, so it is perhaps no surprise that it has been honoured in this way as one of the stand-out albums of 2012.
