Linn Records is delighted to announce that ‘Mozart Symphonies 38 - 41' by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Sir Charles Mackerras has won the Orchestral Award and the Disc of the Year Award at the prestigious BBC Music Magazine Awards. The winners were announced in a special awards ceremony which took place on the 7th April at King's Place in London. The Orchestral Award was decided by a public vote whilst the recording was selected Disc of the Year from the final 18 nominations by the BBC Music Magazine Jury.
Sir Charles was presented with his awards by actress Jane Asher and by Lord Robert Winston, presenter of Child of Our Time. In his acceptance speech for the Orchestral Award he paid tribute to the other nominees and other conductors he admires, but when it came to accepting the Disc of the Year Award Sir Charles was absolutely speechless and overwhelmed that his recording with the SCO had beaten all the other winners to be chosen as Disc of the Year.
BBC Music Magazine reviewer Michael Tanner said of the recording: "Compared to other recent conductors, Mackerras gets so much more light and shade in these works, and even grandeur. The Prague in particular is wonderfully ample and majestic. Yet everything is alert and alive - nothing appears to be an accompaniment figure, but seems to be part of a grand design."
‘Mozart Symphonies 38 - 41' has enjoyed great success since its release:
These recent successes will help to generate excitement around their next recording which will be launched on the 4th May: ‘Beethoven Piano Concertos 3, 4 & 5'. The Orchestra and Sir Charles are joined by Portuguese pianist Artur Pizarro in the highly anticipated recording of Beethoven's final three piano concertos.
A big thank you to everyone who voted in the awards!
