An 'Indispensable' Mozart Recording
Natasha Loges names Mackerras' Mozart as one of five indispensable recordings of his music
This is the first recording for newly-appointed SCO Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, who will conduct the piece he performed at his audition to secure this post: Schubert’s 'Great' C Major Symphony.
Emelyanychev conducted SCO in a performance of the symphony in March 2018, which led The Scotsman to comment: "Emelyanychev constantly balancing surface charm and vigour with a far darker, more manic undertow – not least in the towering cumulative energy of his propulsive finale."
Emelyanychev is an outstanding representative of the younger generation of Russian conductors and already has a substantial recording pedigree: his prizes include a Gramophone Award 2017, together with Joyce DiDonato and Il Pomo d’Oro, for their album In War & Peace (Warner/Erato), and the Golden Mask theatre prize as harpsichordist in a production of Le nozze di Figaro in Perm, conducted by Theodor Currentzis (Sony Classical).
This recording will be released in autumn 2019 to coincide with Emelyanychev’s first season as Principal Conductor.
