Guardian Praise for Ian Shaw

Ian Shaw continues to astound critics and fans alike with his almost legendary live performances. This week he performed a residency at Pizza Express Jazz Club in London with guests including Liane Carroll, Cleveland Watkiss and labelmate Claire Martin.

On this occasion, he performed with guest Sarah Jane Morris and trumpeter par excellence Guy Barker. A four star review from John Fordham in The Guardian described the sell-out show as "easygoing but emotionally rousing".

The review then states that his performances of Big Yellow Taxi and Here's to Life prove that "Shaw is a natural-born entertainer as well as a classy improvising vocalist".

Finally, the critique describes the the encore, saying that the trio "turned Try a Little Tenderness into an ecstatic gospel rocker. It was spontaneous musicianship at its best".

With dates upcoming at Oxford Jazz Festival, Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott's, there are plenty of opportunities for jazz connoisseurs to catch Shaw in a live setting in 2009.
