Gramophone Classical Music Awards Shortlist 2014
Gramophone has announced the Shortlist for the 2014 awards and Linn has three recordings in contention: 'Chopin: Piano Concertos' by Ingrid Fliter and two recordings from Dunedin Consort. Why not tweet your support for your favourite recording using the hashtag #GramoAwards?
Dunedin Consort - 'J.S. Bach: Six Brandenburg Concertos' (Linn) nominated in the 'Baroque Instrumental' category.
Gramophone described Dunedin's first instrumental release as 'expertly stylish' and 'nothing short of sensational'. 'Six Brandenburg Concertos' was also a nominee at the International Classical Music Awards 2014 and was chosen as the 'No. 2 Classical Album of 2013' by the Glasgow Herald.
Dunedin Consort - 'Mozart: Requiem (Reconstruction of first performance)' (Linn) nominated in the 'Choral' category.
Described by Gramophone as 'one of the finest Mozart Requiems in recent years...thought provoking and satisfying' this is the premiere recording of Mozart scholar David Black's new 2013 edition of Süssmayr's completion of Mozart's Requiem. In keeping with several other Dunedin projects, this provides the opportunity to re-imagine what this work may have sounded like at its very first performance. It was named 'Recording of the Month' in the May 2014 issue of Gramophone.
Ingrid Fliter - 'Chopin: Piano Concertos' (Linn) nominated in the 'Concerto' category.
Award-winning pianist Ingrid Fliter made her Linn debut with a distinctive performance of Chopin's notoriously difficult piano concertos, featuring the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jun Märkl. Named 'Disc of the Week' by BBC Radio 3 'CD Review' and Classic FM Radio, Gramophone stated: 'Fliter, by whatever magical means, touches the heart.'
