Claire Martin sings from The Great American Songbook
Claire swings it alongside Paolo Nutini and Melody Gardot...
When Linn Records re-mastered the Claire Martin album "Perfect Alibi", originally recorded in 2000, we knew it had to be re-released. This faith has been rewarded with a host of excellent reviews and now a listing in the respected US-based magazine Audiophile Audition with a "2008 Best of Year List - Jazz Category" award.
It features an eclectic selection of songs including Up From the Skies by Jimi Hendrix, soul classic People Make the World Go Round and a collaboration with John Martyn entitled Man in the Station. Musicians include Arnie Somogyi (bass), Mornington Lockett (clarinet , saxophones) and Paul Stacey (guitars, keyboards).
"Perfect Alibi" is an album often cited as ahead of it's time in terms of style and repertoire - a distinct move away from the Great American Songbook.
It was released in summer 2008, at the same time as "The Early Years Anthology", a collection of Claire Martin's first four studio recordings.
