'Best Vocalist', Claire Martin, set for a magical New Year...

It's been an exceptional week for The First Lady of British Jazz, Claire Martin: it was announced that Claire, for the second year running, has been named ‘Best Vocalist' in the British Jazz Awards.

The Oscars of the British Jazz world are in their 22nd year and celebrate the achievements of Britain's rich and diverse Jazz scene. The calibre of the musicians shortlisted in the British Jazz Awards indicates the excellence present in Britain today: the ‘Vocals' shortlist includes Val Wiseman, Norma Winstone, Liane Carroll and Tina May. Speaking of her awards triumph, Claire said: "I'm delighted with this award! To be named alongside these great vocalists is a real honour, and I'm extremely grateful for the support of the people who have voted for me. It's been a fantastic year and this is the perfect way to launch into 2011!" 

March 2011 also sees the launch of Claire's new album, ‘Witchcraft'. Claire is joined by Sir Richard Rodney Bennett (piano and vocals) in this new recording which is a celebration of the music of Cy Coleman. To mark the launch of ‘Witchcraft', and Sir Richard's 75th birthday, the duo will perform throughout 2011, which will include a concert at the Elgar Room and a birthday celebration at The Wigmore Hall. Claire and Sir Richard presented their critically acclaimed album, ‘When Lights are Low', in 2005, for which The Times stated "together they make a stylish combination".

‘Witchcraft' will be released on the 7th March 2011.
