Named as one the best orchestral recordings is Bizet: Carmen Suite No. 1 & Symphony No. 1 - Gounod: Petite Symphonie by François Leleux and Scottish Chamber Orchestra: "Conductor and oboist Francois Leleux is a frequent figure on the concert platform with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and here makes his first recording with the orchestra in this fizzing programme of Bizet and Gounod."
Among the best choral and song recordings is Handel: Samson (Full Chorus Version) by Dunedin Consort and John Butt, starring Joshua Ellicott in the title role: "John Butt’s deep grasp of Handel’s rhetoric and of large scale structure turns the work’s patchwork quality into a virtue."
Phantasm's first recording in its Bach series, The Well-Tempered Consort – I, was named one of the best chamber music recordings of the year: "At the fore is a playful sense of exploration into the chromatic corners and remote tonal areas originally intended to promote an otherworldly effect."
