Barb Jungr records new album in New York
Earlier this month Barb Jungr recorded Shelter From The Storm at Sears Studios in New York, due for release on Linn Records in early 2016.
Shelter From The Storm sees Barb, one of the UK's finest interpreters of song, join hands across the Atlantic with Laurence Hobgood, the American progressive and contemporary jazz piano virtuoso. This exciting new album project was recorded with Calum Malcolm at the controls and is co-produced by Calum, Laurence and Barb. Supporting musicians include Michael Olatuje on bass and percussionist Wilson Torres.
In his first major collaboration since his work with Kurt Elling (with whom he won a GRAMMY for the album, Dedicated To You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane and Hartman), Laurence Hobgood said: 'I'm not just thrilled to be collaborating with Barb Jungr; I'm energised, inspired and downright giddy at having (been) matched with a "musician's singer" - a superb vocalist whose musical intelligence is its own formidable, evolved force with which to reckon. And the reckoning is a blast!'
Shelter From The Storm includes three original songs by Barb and Laurence, alongside material by Dylan, Cohen, Mitchell, Springsteen, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim, Peter Gabriel and Bacharach and David.
The release will be supported by a major UK, European and Stateside tour in 2016.
